MyOpenDoor Live — the app

The pocket interpreter for two people sharing one phone. $2.99 a month, billed by Apple.

It is not hearing me

+
Hold the button down the whole time you are speaking and let go when you finish — it listens only while the button is held. If nothing appears at all, the microphone permission is off: open the iPhone Settings app, scroll to MyOpenDoor Live, and switch Microphone on. Then reopen the app.

It heard me but said nothing out loud

+
Check the speaker button on the middle bar. If it shows a crossed-out speaker, voice is off and translations come back as text only. Tap it to turn the voice back on. If your phone is on silent, the translation still plays — but turn the volume up.

It translated into the wrong language

+
Open Languages on the middle bar. The first is your language, at the bottom of the screen; the second is theirs, at the top. If a very short phrase goes the wrong way, say a full sentence — one or two words is not enough for it to tell whose language it was.

It keeps getting a name wrong

+
Add it to My words, in Settings and help. Those words are given to the recognizer before it listens, which is the only point at which an unusual name can still be got right. People, places, and the words your work uses are all worth adding.

Is it listening when I am not holding the button?

+
No. The microphone opens when you press and is released when you let go — released, not muted. Your iPhone’s own orange recording dot goes out at the same moment, and that dot is the OS reporting, not us. The badge on screen tells you the same thing in words.

What happens after 1,000 translations in a month?

+
The app keeps working. The spoken voice switches off and translations come back as text until the month turns over. Nothing stops mid-conversation.

How do I cancel?

+
Subscriptions are billed by Apple, so cancelling happens in your Apple Account: open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose MyOpenDoor Live, then Cancel. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for.

How do I delete my account and my conversations?

+
In the app: Settings and help, then "Delete my account and conversations". That removes your account, your saved words and every stored conversation from our servers. It does not cancel your Apple subscription — cancel that separately, as above, or you will keep being charged.

I paid but the app is asking me to subscribe again

+
Tap Restore on the first screen. That finds an existing subscription on your Apple Account — after a reinstall, a new phone, or a second device. If Restore says nothing was found, make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account that bought it.

Refunds

+
Apple handles all billing and all refunds for the app. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue an App Store refund on your behalf, but tell us what went wrong and we will fix it.

Live translation for a church or event

The service that runs in the room, on a Sunday, with a booth and a congregation.

Our listeners see "reconnecting" mid-service

+
The booth computer holds onto the audio and catches up when the connection comes back, and your guests’ phones stay connected. If it happens every week, the room’s internet is the cause and we can help you plan around it.

A word or a name is being translated wrong every week

+
That is what the glossary is for. Send us the word and the language and we will add it, or add it yourself from your console. Glossaries apply to both transcription and translation.

The booth laptop is asking us to log in on a Sunday morning

+
Email or call us — do not try to fix it during the service. A booth computer is set up once and stays signed in for a year; if it is asking again, something changed and we can send a new setup link in minutes.

We need to add a language before this weekend

+
Email us. Most languages are live within 48 hours and many are immediate.

Still stuck

Email hello@myopendoortranslate.com. Tell us what you were doing, what you expected, and what happened instead — and if it is the app, which iPhone and which iOS version. That is usually enough to find it on the first reply.
